Herdsmen Overrun 12 LGAs - Gov. Cries For Help.

The governor of Benue State, Mr. Samuel Ortom, has sounded a cry for help from the authorities and private interests to assist the state overcome the brutish activities of Fulani herdsmen.

Benue and Southern part of Kaduna states remain among the most affected parts of the country from carnages of the herdsmen that have left thousands dead and millions of naira worth of properties destroyed across the country.

Bemoaning this sad occurrence when he hosted officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) led by the President, Rev. Dr. Samson Ayokunle, in Government House, Markudi, Ortom explained that 12 out 23 local council areas in the state had remained under the siege of herdsmen for two years now.I'm

Among the areas he listed include, Gwer-west, Kwande, Tarka , Buruku, Guma, Logo, Agatu, Gwer-East and Ukum.

Further decrying how the inhuman activities of the brutish herdsmen had forced the locals out of their farmlands leading to food shortage, hunger, poverty and untold hardship on the people, Otom said the government had begun the process of ending the incessant clashes through a pending bill in Benue House of Assembly that would put an end to open grazing in any part of the state.

Ayokunle, president of CAN, in his remarks said the essence of the visit was to identify with the victims of herdsmen attacks and the Christian community in Benue.

CAN, he said, was in the state to also provide relief materials that would help the victims pick up their lives again. Ayokunle frowned at the speed with which the menace of the herdsmen/farmers clashes was spreading across the federation.

He then called on the Federal Government not to be unmindful of the impending danger should the “wicked” acts of the herdsmen continue unchecked.
