Thief Preferred Jail Term To Refunding N6M.

It was a mild drama when a 36 years old man was seen celebrating a court sentence. He was sentenced to an 18 months jail term for stealing. Litigants were shocked at the surprising development at the Magistrates’ court sitting in Ojo, Lagos. Over joyous Ajoma Isaac was seen dancing and jumping in excitement as a result of the sentence in lieu of refunding N6m stolen oil proceeds.

Anjoma Isaac had stolen diesel belonging to his business partner, Emmanuel Etoo. The 32 litres of diesel was sold and the money converted to personal use.

The convict whose guilt was proved beyond reasonable doubt expressed happiness at the judge's decision.

When taken to the police Station, Anjoma Isaac had insisted on going to jail through court process instead of a brokered peace deal of refunding the said amount.

He was charged and pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mr A.A Adesanya granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was later found and sentenced according to the law.

Though the prosecuting team was diligent in court, Mr. Emmanuel Etoo would however not be able to get his due to Mr. Ajoma Isaac preference to a jail term. ⚖
